This new facility, built in the grounds of an existing primary school, has a prominent southern aspect that creates views from the indoor spaces across the surrounding woodscape and towards the wider school community.
We incorporated a large, covered external play area into the designs, allowing children to play outdoors all year round while protecting the large areas of south-easterly glazing from excessive solar heat gain. An open plan interior provides ease of access and visibility.
The external form of the building is created from simple, interlocking geometric forms. Zinc and cedar external finishes are contemporary, enduring and tactile, providing a welcoming first education environment for the very youngest of children.
